#SafeTripPH

To gently revive domestic tourism during the pandemic, we created a recommendation engine that matched Filipinos’ moods with travel inspiration  including up-to-date safety guidelines for each destination.

The Context

A year into the pandemic, the world was still at a standstill and so was tourism. People’s mental health was fraying. Everyone needed an escape.

International travel wasn’t an option yet, but domestic travel was cautiously reopening. The Department of Tourism Philippines wanted to encourage Filipinos to explore their own backyard but tastefully, sensitively, and safely.

The Approach

We needed to strike the right balance: inspiring wanderlust without pressure, and offering guidance without being overwhelming.

So we built an emoji-powered recommendation engine. All users had to do was tweet how they felt using just emojis. In return, they received personalized travel ideas that matched their vibe, complete with travel information and safety guidelines. It was mood-based, low-pressure, and made action feel optional but ready when you were.
